A new promotion of student-teachers and five new schools for children

This year we are pleased to be able to again increase the number of children who will receive a good start to their educational career. I know it might be difficult to think of preschoolers as starting an educational career, but if you think that everyone started there, it is quite sobering.

The Foundation helped five schools to start-up this year. Three in the Liancourt area, which is near to our teacher training center. The fourth is in Tabarre, and is part of an orphan home, and the 5th one is actually a school which was existing before but was destroyed by hurricane Mathew in 2016. We had to completely rebuild the school building.

Since reestablishing the teacher training centre after the earthquake, we have trained over 127 students to become teachers. This year we are starting a new teacher training promotion of 32.

Almost all the teachers who graduated from our center are employed. All the schools that we help to start are also run by our graduates.

So not only do our graduate teachers have long-term livelihoods, but many children will benefit from a quality education during the lifetime of their careers as teachers.

Earthquakes in Haiti Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th

Thanks for all your enquires and prayers. We are shaken up but fine. Fortunately for us none of our partner schools or teacher training center are in the areas which were affected, so although we felt the shake, we did not have any damage. There were 11 fatalities and 135 injured in the North. Thank God! Nothing like 2010 when over 220,000 died. So we are thankful! Our hearts go out to the families who suffered losses. Every life lost is a tragedy.
